Design / Project Flow
Boutique interior design firm, Elizabeth Hay Design, undertakes a small number of projects at any one time, thereby ensuring that Elizabeth has oversight of all projects alongside her senior designers. Working globally, projects range from single rooms to full renovations.
Concept
We seek to build a strong rapport with our clients to ensure that we fully understand their aspirations for their project. At the project’s outset, we present our concept design through imagery and utilise various furniture plan options to consider different ways in which the space could be used. By the close of this stage, we aim to have a good understanding of the design direction of the project, as well as a confirmed furniture plan.
Design Development/Schematic Stage
Informed by our understanding of the project’s design direction, as well as by our clients’ taste, we address the soft furnishing schemes. We usually present 2-3 options per room. This stage also involves choosing specific pieces of furniture, alongside the project’s hard finishes such as flooring, tiles, sanitary ware etc. Additionally, we will consider the style of carpentry, and any interior architectural details such as internal door designs, skirtings and cornicing etc. The lighting, electrical and reflected ceiling plans are all reviewed during this element of the process. By the end of this stage, we aim to have a scheme approved for each room, and to have agreed upon the overall look, as well as some furniture and lighting options.
Detailed Design Development
With the schemes confirmed for all areas, boards are made for the client to approve for each room. During this stage, we deliver detailed drawing packages for any carpentry, kitchens, bathrooms and custom-made furniture. Specialist custom samples are requested. All furniture pieces, fabric schemes and interior architectural details are finalised.
Detailed Design Package
As soon as all of the schemes have been approved, we work on the schedules to issue to site, including finishes schedules, sanitary ware schedules etc.
Estimating Stage
Following the approval of all of the fabric schemes, furniture styles, lighting etc, we produce detailed estimates for everything that we have suggested, working closely with our suppliers to work out costs and detailing.
